My name is Chandu Radia and I am a REAL old timer! I used to live on Gabula Road, very near the Nile Gardens. I graduated from the high school in Jinja way back when - in the 50's. Lal Singh was the headmaster at the time and among the teachers I remember (it's not easy these days to remember) were Bhagat Singh Atker, D'Souza, D'Costa, Mr. Oza.................!

Among the friends I had were V.D. Raichura, K.D. Nathwani, Chuni Nathwani, Shashi Shah, P.T. Sheth, Vasant Kalyanpur, Rasik Raichura, Vinod & Narendra Vadera (cousins of mine) and many more.

After finishing high school in Jinja, I moved to Kampala (and then to Dar es Salaam) and back to Kampala again in 1965. I participated in auto rallys (with Shekhar Mehta first and with Viju Sidpra) and, in 1971, a few months after Idi Amin came into power, I left Uganda for USA.

I worked for an insurance company for 20 years in the USA and lived in various States. I left the insurance industry in 1990. I currently live in San Antonio, TX and we own a staffing agency (personnel agency) and a travel agency. I was in Jinja this past December and took some pictures there - even went to the school there and took a few pictures. I will try and post them here before long.

My wife Vasu (Vasanti) is from Dar es Salaam and we have two "children," Saloni & Saneel. Saloni (born in Kampala) is 36 and she is married and lives in Austin, TX and our son, Saneel (born in New Orleans, LA) is 25 and lives in Los Angeles and is getting married on April 2, 2005.

This website is a fantastic idea and, I am sure, will not only result in some fabulous reminiscences but will also help re-establish and re-inforce some old friendships.
